Plotly’s charts render as interactive browser elements rather than static images — hover for tooltips, zoom into a region, toggle series on and off — without writing any JavaScript. That interactivity is the whole differentiator from Matplotlib or Seaborn, which produce static plots by default.

Reach for it specifically when a chart needs to be explored rather than just viewed — a dashboard, a report someone else will interact with, or any case where “zoom in on that spike” is a reasonable thing to want to do.
