AI & Agents

LlamaIndex handles the data side of a RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) pipeline specifically — ingesting documents, chunking and indexing them, and retrieving the relevant pieces to feed into an LLM call — rather than being a general agent framework.

Where LangChain covers the broader space of chains, agents, and tool use, LlamaIndex is more narrowly focused on “get your own data into a form an LLM can query well,” and the two are often combined — LlamaIndex for retrieval, LangChain for the surrounding application logic.
